Secretum Organic Farming and Fishing
A Permaculture approach, following the 12 Design Principles, could become a viable option to integrate the surrounding community into Secretum and this method is showcased in this 10min video clip: The Permaculture Principles
The aim is that all the fruit and vegetables that can be found on the Island of Príncipe while respecting the seasons will be able to supply our chef with exceptional produce to deliver the Secretum culinary journey.
Sustainable fishing means leaving enough fish in the ocean, respecting habitats and ensuring people who depend on fishing can maintain their livelihood. By embracing this approach, Secretum will strive to achieve the following objectives in collaboration with the Príncipe Foundation:

- Define a no-fishing zone to promote space for feeding grounds;
- Encourage local fisherman to use line fishing only as opposed to nets;
- Buy from local fishermen with an established “Fair Trade” agreement and improve storage conditions on their own canoes;
- Adopt Tag & Release approach for sport fishing with the “Bill Fish Foundation”;
- Provide our guests with a local canoe fishing experience.
