My name is Meryanne Loum-Martin. I purchased this real estate in 2006 to create JNAN YLAN, an intentional community blending the ultimate in international luxury hospitality with the authenticity of a Moroccan farming estate. I wanted to offer a dynamic sanctuary for those who invest and live here while making a permanent, positive impact on those born to this truly magnificent land.
From the start, I envisioned cultivating two of Morocco’s greatest resources, exceptional craftsmanship and traditional knowledge, and to integrate this intangible heritage with world-class design and green technologies towards innovative solutions to climate change. I have been carefully nurturing this uniquely compelling endeavour to deliver myriad financial and lifestyle returns, and to serve as a case study for sustainable, profitable development anywhere culture and nature thrive.
The following introduction is driven by visuals but make no mistake, ours is a sound and competitive business model. I bring thirty years as a hospitality and design pioneer in Marrakech’s highly competitive luxury market. Having studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before becoming a lawyer, I arrived in Morocco in 1985. Immediately, I identified the value in tapping this artisanal culture to distinguish my first real estate development, Dar Tamsna Villas. Even my esteemed competitors recognise the pioneering role I played in establishing Marrakech as a leading leisure destination for discerning Europeans. In its Marrakech market survey from that era, The Wall Street Journal called me “the first one to create a new type of tourism that appeals to affluent Western society.”
Recognising the next trend, I went on to develop a parcel of farmland in the Palmeraie, then an undervalued expanse outside Marrakech’s urban centre. Here in 2001, I opened the award winning Jnane Tamsna, a boutique hotel aligned with my cultural and philanthropic endeavours including the Global Diversity Foundation. This design driven expression of my passion for creating opportunities rooted in cultural heritage, conservation and community has been featured in The New York Times, Architectural Digest, The Financial Times and Condé Nast Traveller among other leading publications across travel, lifestyle and business.
Going forward, successful real estate ventures must yield strong financial returns matched by measurable environmental and social impact. JNAN YLAN optimises the area’s natural resources -- food straight from our organic landscape and buildings made from the earth beneath our feet – and leverages deep local knowledge as the transformative fundamentals in our business model that integrates pioneering green technology with superlative design.
